March Weekend outing! 19/03/2011

Greetings! I know it's been quiet here for awhile, kind of reminds us that we're all coping with campus life though doesn't it? But we're breaking the silence today to write about our great weekend outing on the 19th of March!

It was an ambitious trip to start with, as we had to cover five different places in a day. After gathering at the Glenferrie Station , we headed straight to Parliament Station before moving on to the Melbourne Museum.

We had a quick group photo outside before going into the museum.

And then a few more groupies when we were inside.

Later we continued on to the lovely Brighton Beach, where we settled our bring-your-own lunch in the tree shades before invading the sand.

We roamed the area, took a few shots, had a simple ice-breaking game followed by a casual frisbee competition. Then, we had a few group photos of everyone that came along that day.

A small camwhoring session while waiting for the train back to the city..

Then it was dinner at the famous Laksa King for a taste of good-old Malaysian Curry Laksa.

We were all stuffed and full, but the night wasn't over yet. Next stop was the Eureka Skydeck observatory.

After enjoying a birds-eye view of Melbourne and the Super Moon that night, we concluded the tiring but hugely enjoyable outing with a group photo right outside the entrance to Eureka Tower.

What a day! Thank you everyone who came along, I'm sure everyone had heaps of fun!

If you missed this outing, fret not! We have an Easter Trip to Mornington Peninsula (as voted by you!) coming up this Easter Break. Details are still in the pipeline but are being finalised as I type this, so keep watching this space until we have more details available very soon!

Till then, in good spirit from the MSA committee - Happy April Fools!

Where would you like to go for our April Easter Club Outing?

Greetings fellow Malaysians! April is creeping near and I'm sure everyone's anticipating our forthcoming Easter break. As such, the committee would like you, to decide where should we go during the Easter holidays!

We've came up with three options, namely:

1) Ballarat - Sovereign Hill Museum
The Sovereign Hill living open air museum is one of Victoria's most popular attractions. The museum mainly depicts a gold mining village with real life costumed people living and spending their daily life in it. More info at http://www.sovereignhill.com.au/

2) Mornington Peninsula Hot Springs
Bathe in natural, mineral-rich hot springs at the Peninsula Hot Springs. More info at http://www.peninsulahotsprings.com/

3) Phillip Island
Home of the largest colony of Little Penguins. More info here http://www.penguins.org.au/

Which of the three would you prefer? Vote now via the poll above to make your choice count! Polling has begun and will be effective from now 'till 11:59pm this Saturday!

Update: Thank you everyone for voting! Mornington Peninsula came out a clear winner with a whopping 83% of votes. So the Peninsula it is! Stay tuned for more details as our committee start their engines on trip-planning!

Ice Breaking BBQ Event Photos!

G'day peeps! Before we jump into our all-important Inaugural General Meeting tomorrow, let us all recap on our successful Ice Breaking BBQ last Saturday!

It was a cool and sunny Saturday morning, no weather more perfect for a warm BBQ party smack in the middle of the lovely Hawthorn Central Gardens. The committee arrived a little earlier for the preparation that morning, and nothing was more rewarding than seeing fellow Malaysians starting to stream into the park!

Friends of friends were introduced to each other, hands were shaken, names were introduced around while sandwiches started flying off the park table.

As everyone get to know one other, our President - Kendrick Ng, gave a casual speech welcoming everyone.

Then it was a simple Ice breaking game session which saw everyone scrambling to recall names.

After which, everyone was treated with BBQ chicken wings and sausages fresh off the heat.

From then on, it was just BBQ, chit-chatting and the sun. To wrap up the event, everyone gathered in a shade (in true Malaysian-style) under a large tree for a huge group photo of everyone who was present that day!

A big shout-out to everyone who came along - a BIG terima kasih! It wouldn't have been such a memorable event if it was not for each and everyone of you. Here's to more awesome gatherings in the future!

See you tomorrow for the Inaugural General Meeting of MSA at The George, Swinburne!
